The Traveller’s Inn - Tangled Skein, Episode 1: Taproom Dancing
This is the first part of my Kindle Vella series, The Traveller's Inn, and episodic story series. The first "book" is called Tangled Skein, and is fantasy. The link to the full Kindle Vella Series is here; https://amzn.to/3FZg5kj and here's the series description:
Jack Tucker, time traveller, owns The Traveller's Inn. It has a bar, employees, customers, and drink specials, just like other places. With one difference, this inn can be anywhere it wants to be. It's a cross-dimensional, time-hoping, world-jumping, reality-shifting business that caters to a special crowd. Behind its doors you can find cyborgs, ogres, aliens, demons, automatons, faeries, and others. When it comes to dimension-spanning adventures, it's all about location, location, location.
Episode 1: Taproom Dancing
Cogsley flinched—as much as an automaton could—when the glass mug shattered on the beam of wood a meter away. Tiny cubes of glass scattered and tinkled on the bar, and the light of the LED lanterns cascading rainbows across the bartender’s bow tie and spotless tuxedo.
The three-piece band—a fiddle, a flute, and a banjo—picked up the tempo of the tune and raised the pitch of the music to match the pitch of the brawl.
Golem Floorcleaner, the second automaton, shuffled towards the shards of drinkware—grumbling—the broom and dustpan scraping along the wooden planks of the floor.
“Cogsley,” the golem’s voice was slow and melancholy, “why do they do things to make extra work for us?”
“Because,” Cogsley’s voice was nasal and echoed through the glass dome that formed his head, “they are living beings, who have no sense of decorum. The same reason they track mud across my clean floor, spit everywhere, and use the privy. They think living means making messes.”
